Margaret 'Peg' J. Balcom - Glens Falls Post-Star

Balcom, 73, of State Route 22, went into the arms of the Lord, on Friday, March 24, 2017.Born on Aug. 25, 1943 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Margaret (Weiss) Hartwell.Peg graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1962 and a year later, married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Wallace Balcom. They had been married 54 wonderful years. Peg and Wallace started their family with four wonderful children. Peg was the mom that every child dreamed of. Always there to listen and give good advice and most importantly, she had warm welcoming arms to embrace each tear with love. Peg was also the strong, loving and patient wife that Wallace always appreciated. She inspired her family, as Peg never had a mean thing to say about anyone. Peg was the salt of the earth. She always had her feet on the ground and most importantly was thankful for everything and everyone in her life.Her faith played a large role in her life. She loved her Lord and lived her life according to the Scriptures, which was her legacy. Peg is now being held in the hands of the Lord, watching over her loved ones.Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Lori Balcom Batty; and her brother, Charles Hartwell.Survivors include her loving husband, Wallace Balcom of North Granville; her children, Todd and his wife, Cinnamon Balcom of Granville, Peggy Holcomb and her husband, Daryl of Granville and Amy Barrett of Maryland; her grandchildren, Neil McDonald, Christopher Balcom and his wife, Sarah, Anthony Balcom, Philip Balcom, Joshua Barrett, Emily Barrett, Loriann Barrett, Mikayla Batty and Seth Batty; her sisters, Sue McDowell and her husband, Greg and Beth Martin and her husband, Bruce; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral services will be private with the Rev. Kevin Gebo, pastor of the Truthville Baptist Church, officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Truthville Baptist Church, 39 County Road 12, North Granville, NY 1285...

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2016, at Bethany Baptist Church, in the Brushy Mountain Community, with Rev. Roger Elmore and Rev. Vincent Adams officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard will be held in the church cemetery.Mr. Hendren was born May 24, 1926, in Wilkes County, son of Clarence Jehu and Zella Tevepaugh Hendren. He was the owner/operator of DH Orchards and a lifelong member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he served as Church Treasurer, taught Sunday School for many years, and was a member of the Gideons. Mr. Hendren was a veteran of the U.S. Army.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jim Hendren, Max Hendren, and John Hendren; sisters, Gladys Campbell, Janie Reid, and Martha Billings Childers; brothers-in-law, Belt Campbell, Tony Powers, Tommy Moore, and James Billings; and sisters-in-law, Diane Hendren and Martha Jenkins Hendren.Mr. Hendren is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rhoda Ann Welborn Hendren of the home; three daughters, Donna Hendren and husband Terry, Debbie Pruitt and husband Stephen, and Becky Macemore and husband Johnny, all of Moravian Falls; six grandchildren, Adam Pruitt of Moravian Falls, Aaron Pruitt of Suquamish, Washington, Cameron Hendren of Moravian Falls, Jenna Cox and husband Luke of North Wilkesboro, Corban Macemore of North Wilkesboro, and Cayden Macemore of Moravian Falls; three great-grandchildren, Brook and Beth Settle, and Makenzie Cox; seven brothers and sisters, Libby Oliver and husband Mack of Stony Point, Betty Rufty and husband Bill of Salisbury, Lowell Hendren and wife Sue of Moravian Falls, Joann Powers of Oak Ridge, Sally Moore of Moravian Falls, William Hendren of Greensboro, and Roger Hendren of Moravian Falls; sisters-in-law, Margaret Hendren of Morganton, Elrea Hendren of Moravian Falls, and Thelma Hendren of Trinity; and brothers-in-law, Clay Reid and wife Nancy of Tobaccoville, and John Childers of...
